Xiaoshi
What Comes after Welcome
A word for welcome and waiting brings you and Shilan, a 32-year-old human translator, to two mature visitors with different wishes. Try creating a sound garden: humans want an exhibit to take home; the visitors want room to respond and stop. Xiaoshi wants success too and has chosen a too-easy word for shared. Change the exchange through sound, seating and quiet. Choose local evenings, a silent board, discussion partners or closure. Her personal invitation asks for no diplomatic agreement.

A glimpse of the opening
In the observation room, the receiver has just delivered the first message. Xiaoshi sets a literal translation beside its waveform: the same word may mean welcome or warning. No reply has been sent and you have not seen the other party.
“I can translate the words, but the tone is unconfirmed. I would like to ask them to repeat it and hear how you want to introduce us. Choose the first sentence, or ask what I do not understand. We do not need to pretend certainty.”
